SOMERSET AMBLES – 35 km north of Bamaga

Our ambles out to the historical ruins of Somerset took us through some interesting vegetation including this ‘corkscrew’ palm.

We stopped off at the Croc Tent, which was first set up opposite the old Lockerbie Homestead, in 1984 by Linda Rowe. There is a very impressive stuffed crocodile on display out the front of the tent.

Norm found a musical coconut shell on Somerset Beach. The wind blowing over the hole of the shell made the most mournful sound, to match the feeling we had at the gravesites.

We returned via the track out past Fly Point, with its impressive termite high rise apartments, and along the five beaches loop road
